I speak with a lot of coaches about their businesses.
More often than not, their business is a direct reflection of them.
Service delivery, organization, planning… it’s all literally the same as the rest of their lives.
Ultimately, the reason they reach out to me is that something in their business isn’t working. After a short discussion, it’s pretty clear to them that it’s not the business that isn’t working—it’s them.
Why am I writing this? Well, it’s to highlight a very important fact of life that translates directly into business—life is about choices.
Literally everything in your life is a choice or involves a choice of some kind. Yes, I concede that you cannot control everything that happens to you, but you can control how you respond. If you don’t like your current situation, you’re likely only a few different choices away.
Here’s the kicker—that choice that you need to be making isn’t going to be easy because with every choice, there are tradeoffs. Those tradeoffs will require you to prioritize aspects of your life over others. In many cases, those tradeoffs will also require you to challenge parts of yourself that are extremely uncomfortable.
Remember when I said your business was a direct reflection of you?
Well, it’ll only change when you change—and that all starts with choice.
In 6 days, my wife Olivia and I are leaving Canada for good. A country we both called home for almost 30 years (yes, I’m older, but I left for school and work). This was a choice we made to move our lives and our businesses forward. We are prioritizing that over the tradeoff of family, friends, security, and comfort.
Those ARE NOT small tradeoffs!
This transition will demand a tremendous personal transformation on both of our parts—and guess what? That means the business will transform along with us.
Everything you are living is a direct reflection of you and the choices you’ve made to this point.
Don’t like it?
Choose differently.
